Antivirus Pro – What is Antivirus Pro

published on 22.08.2010 in Antivirus

If you have suddenly been advised by a security program that your system is infected you may want to look again at what the program that is advising you of this infection is called. If you do not remember ever installing this antivirus program you might be infected with a rogue program called antivirus pro. If you think that your system has been infected by antivirus pro or another related infection then continue to read below as we will find out what antivirus pro is, as well as how it is spread, and how to get rid of the infection.

Antivirus Pro is a program that will pop up and tell you that you are infected with a bad program, and will advise you to pay to get rid of the program. This is often a lie as the infection is actually antivirus pro and even when purchasing the program you will continue to be infected by the bad program. Antivirus pro is a program that is made by Braviax and is generally identified as Trojan.Virantix.C by many malware scanners.

Often times the warning messages displayed by Antivirus Pro will come from your taskbar to make you think that you had installed the program before and that you actually wanted it on your system. Antivirus Pro also comes in different appearances and may even be called PC Antispyware 2010, or PC Security 2009.

It has been reported that Antivirus Pro will even redirect your internet browsers to pages that the program was previously set up to send traffic too. Often times Antivirus Pro will even prevent updates for your real security programs to try to avoid removal and ensure that Antivirus Pro stays on your system undetected. Many times Antivirus Pro will make the pop up warning messages appear that they are from the Windows operating system itself and try to trick unsuspecting users into purchasing the programs.

Antivirus Pro is often spread the same way that other malicious programs are distributed on the internet. The Trojan is usually attached to other files, hidden in files, or even renamed popular files that trick the users into voluntarily downloading the files. Other times infected websites unknowingly distribute the Antivirus Pro files if their websites have been compromised.

The best way to remove Antivirus Pro from your system is to update your current security program and run a full system scan. Often times Antivirus Pro has disabled the current security programs update ability so you might have to manually download the update or load the definitions onto a cd and install it manually from another computer. The best way to avoid getting infected is to ensure that you are always up to date with your definitions for your current anti virus programs.

Often times people will run a full system scan with a registry cleaner after these malicious programs are removed from their systems as sometimes there are changes or pieces of the programs that are located in the registry that could compromise your system, and even slow the computer down.
