Google 404 Error

published on 23.06.2012 in Programs

If you are using a web browser, especially Google Chrome, then there is a high probability that you have seen a Google 404 Error code displayed. There are many reasons that you might have seen a Google 404 error code and they will be listed below, as well as the different ways that you can either fix the error or try to avoid it in the future.

The cause of a 404 Error is because the page cannot be located. When you are using a browser it is similar to going to a library. If you tell the librarian, the Google Chrome Browser, in this example that you would like a book, which in this example is a web page, and they go to try to find it but cannot they would return and tell you that the book is not in that spot.

Again, with this example, when the book is not in the right spot it is as if it has been moved or is gone for some unknown reason. This is essentially what a google 404 error code is; there is not really any type of explanation that is provided other than the url (webpage) that you are trying to visit is not there.

Now that the cause of Google 404 error codes has been explained we can take a look at the reason why this code can be presented.

Listed below are some of the typical reasons why the Google 404 error’s can be shown when you are trying to visit a website, as well as ways to fix the issues:

- Incorrect URL addresses; always double check that the url is correct that you have entered.
- Websites server is down; the only thing that can be done here is to contact the website owner.
- Your internet is down, try troubleshooting your internet connection if 404 error codes are displayed on every page you are trying to visit.
- The webpage, url location, you are trying to visit has moved; in this case the best thing to do is to go to a search engine and try to enter what you are looking for to see if it has indexed another page that is closer to what you are looking for.

In some extreme cases your system might be infected with malware, or a virus, which is making it appear that you cannot access certain webpage’s. If you think that this could be the cause of the Google 404 error that is being displayed it is best to run a full system scan to try to identify any malicious software on your system.
